EARL and Humble Heroes Team Up in Fundraiser for Unsolved East Atlanta Murders

Aug. 2 fundraiser focuses on the murders of Patrick Cotrona and Atlanta Police Department Officer Alfred Morris Johnson Jr.

EAST ATLANTA — Humble Heroes, a charity that helps injured officers and firefighters and their families, is joining forces with the EARL in East Atlanta to raise money to help solve two unsolved murders.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Aug. 2 from 7 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Atlanta Police Department Officer Alfred Morris Johnson Jr. was killed on Feb. 16, 1980 in East Atlanta Village. His murder is the only one of an Atlanta police officer that remains unsolved.

On May 25, 2013, Patrick Cotrona was shot and killed in a robbery while walking to the Village with two friends from his May Avenue home.

Both murderers remain at large. Ninety percent of all money raised by Humble Heroes will go to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta totals of both the cases.

The remaining 10 percent will go to seriously injured police officers and firefighters.
