The 33-year-old man who drowned Sunday afternoon at Lake Lanier has been identified as Lindy James Murdock of Bass Street in Atlanta, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

Murdock who was on a float, jumped into the water, but never resurfaced. The incident happened in the Athens Park Road are, which is located off Highway 369 in northeast Forsyth County.

Divers with the Hall County Fire Department were already working in the area and responded to the scene. The dive team recovered the man’s body around 4:30 p.m. in the same area where he was last seen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Murdock was out at the lake with friends.

Forsyth County deputies said the cove where Murdock was located is about 40 feet deep in some locations. Murdock was on a float that measured 8 feet by 10 feet.

It's the second drowning of the summer at the lake. Earlier in June, a woman from nearby Suwanee was a drowning victim.
