Not sure how you think I was blaming the victim here. I absolutely was not. I live in the O4W and love living in a walkable neighborhood. I am not afraid to be out on the streets one bit.
It is just amazing that someone will put a gun in your face, threaten to kill you, and face a long jail sentence over a phone! But this problem with robberies is all coming down to how lucrative a business it is for selling stolen phones. This article was a real eye opener to what has become a problem not just in Atlanta, but all over the country.

ReplyRobberies have to be up this year so far in Zone 6. Probably all over Atlanta. All because of your stupid phone.

ReplyAwesome, the fun continues. Instead of an iPhone tracker, there should be an app where you could remote detonate your phone.

Urbanist, if you moved away then why waste your time commenting on all these Atlanta sites? I don't get it. It's the worst kind of trolling.

JM, have you been to any of the Beltline meetings? If not I suggest you stop by. You will see that there are some very smart people working diligently to find a way to get transit on the Beltline. There is already money to study extending the streetcar to the Beltline. And when the eastside trail was built they put in the utilities necessary to run streetcars in the corridor. Now if it were just the city of Atlanta we were relying on to extend the streetcar I too would have doubts. But with the Beltline being so popular and getting national attention, I feel we have an excellent chance of securing federal funds for the extension.

"There is a reason MARTA cancelled the bus line that ran the EXACT SAME ROUTE as this streetcar. " What are you getting at with this statement? Yes, why have a bus route that the streetcar can handle. Or are you trying to say that it was too dangerous for MARTA to run buses on Edgewood?

Urbanist, why do you still live in Atlanta if you hate it so much? I see you all over here, Curbed, What Now Atlanta, (if it's the same Urbanist) trashing everything about this city. I'm curious, why stay?

I was at the meeting last night. And as a Fourth Ward Neighbors voting member I had to vote NO.
What is the point in building the streetcar if we keep giving people a reason
not to use it? If there is tons of parking available, most people will choose to
drive than take MARTA/Streetcar to the neighborhood. It completely defeats the
purpose of what the streetcar is supposed to do and is setting it up for
failure.
I understand the church and even the businesses desire to make it easy for
people to visit. I just think we should step back and look at the big picture
here. We have a chance to be the most walkable neighborhood with good urban
design in the entire city. But giving over prime real estate to something (a
car) that spends 95% of it's time doing nothing and taking up space does not
seem like a good idea.
It was also brought to our attention that the church has used the massive park lots at the King Center a couple blocks down the street in the past. They even admitted they could use them again. But they want a lot close to be more convenient. This convenience of parking lots has destroyed much of our cities history already. . Granted there is not really anything of historical value on the proposed lot. But building a surface lot guarantees that nothing great could be built there in the future.
