With the election over, our friends at the Elder Tree House in East Atlanta Village posted this clever and humorous sign outside the eatery's entrance. It's not Republicans or Democrats we need to fear, it's the aliens. We would add that with all the ghost sightings of which we've been told in various parts of the Village, need to fear close encounters with the spiritual kind, too. — Péralte Paul
Democratic Incumbent Simone Bell voted in for another term in District 58 of the Georgia House of Representatives.
It’s been a fast and furious election season finish for Rep. Simone Bell (D-Atlanta) Not because she was in a hotly contested race Tuesday because she wasn’t. With all 26 precincts reporting, the Incumbent from District 58 garnered 87 percent of the votes to defeat Republican challenger Earl Cooper of Midtown. Almost 20,000 votes were cast. The backwards L-shaped district stretches from Virginia-Highland down to Fort McPherson in the southwest part of the city. Since winning a special election in 2009, Bell has served three sessions in the Georgia House of Representatives, but she entered Election Day 2012 doing all she could to make sure the next session doesn’t begin with the Republicans holding a the two-thirds “supermajority” threshold…

Charter school amendment appears headed for win.
UPATE 5:50 pm If you are in line to vote at 7 pm, you will get to vote even though the polls close then. Tens of thousands of Fulton County voters have already cast ballots today. Turnout is especially high for today’s General Election, as it is in most Presidential election years. It's too early to know how this year compares to 2008. In the evening after traditional work hours, peak turnout is anticipated, and tens of thousands of additional voters could exercise their right to vote. Fulton County elections officials released a statement advising that voters who are in line at 7 pm will be allowed to vote under Georgia law. As provided by Georgia law, voters who are over age 75 or who have a disability are eligible to ask to move ahead …

by Mark Greenstein We lament that so few congressional seats are in play; third and fourth parties change that! Your vote counts MORE if made for a 3rd party candidate. 4% of the vote in just ONE state makes a difference. It could put the U.S. Senate into one party or the other party's hands. Even if it doesn't, it gets the party NOTICED in two years. Your vote counts MORE when it is used to punish wayward incumbents. Republicans in Congress who wouldn't stop Medicare Part D, McCain-Feingold, and "bridges to nowhere" DESERVE to be punished. Democrats in Congress who wouldn't stop The Patriot Act, Guantanamo, "Don't Ask Don't Tell", Wall Street bailouts, big-bank protections, Social Security theft, and NDA imprisonments DESERVE to be …

The lawsuit alleges that the preamble and the question on the Nov. 6 ballot is biased in favor of approval of the measure.
An East Atlanta church minister and a public school teacher have filed a lawsuit in Fulton Superior Court against members of the state of Georgia government over the language of the Nov. 6 ballot as it pertains to charter schools. The lawsuit, filed by the Rev. Timothy McDonald, senior pastor at First Iconium Baptist Church in East Atlanta, and Dalton teacher Beverly Hedges, names Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp as co-defendants. The complaint alleges that Gov. Deal used language in the preamble to the ballot question and the ballot question itself that is misleading and that was not passed by the General Assembly. This is how the ballot language currently appears: "Provides for improving student …
