58,338 Early Votes Cast in DeKalb

Don't forget Saturday voting is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at three locations.

With the Nov. 6 Election Day fast approaching, voters are trying to beat the long lines at the polls. Through Thursday, 58,338 voters had cast early ballots in DeKalb County, according to the DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections Office. That's 12.4 percent of the county's 470,065 registered voters. If you have a hard time getting away from work to vote, consider voting today, Oct. 27. Registered voters can cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at these three locations. From Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, these other polls will be open for early voting. No early voting will be allowed on Saturday, Nov. 3, or Monday, Nov. 5. For more information, go to the DeKalb County Elections Office webpage.

by Jason Wayne I found out this past week that there was a solid chance I wouldn't have been able to vote in the upcoming national election due to a technicality, and if I did vote, it was at risk of it being seen as fraudulent. As I sit here filling out a form to update my voter registration information, I thought it would probably be a good idea to share my experience with others. With all of the voter fraud legislation some folks have pushed through over the last decade, there are a lot of people who - like me - who have become or are at risk of becoming ineligible to legitimately vote and may not find that out until election day, when it's too late, or I reckon they may continue voting without finding out at all. DeKalb County to Host Voter Education and Registration

Training sessions designed to provide residents with information about voter registration, identification requirements and to conduct voter registration drives.

by Patch Staff ONE DeKalb Votes and the DeKalb County Voter Registration & Elections Office, will host a voter education and registration training on Monday, Sept. 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for residents. The training sessions will be held at the Voter Registration & Elections Office, 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300 in Decatur. The training sessions are designed to provide residents with information about voter registration, ID requirements and conducting voter registration drives. Election Board Certifies HD 58 Results

Democrat incumbent Simone Bell to face Republican Earl Cooper in November.

The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections officially certified the results of the July 31 primary on Monday including House Districts 58/59 and Senate Districts 6/56. House District 58 stretches from Virginia-Highland to Fort McPherson and includes Reynoldstown, Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park. Following the election, Democrat incumbent Simone Bell was declared the unofficial winner with 55.69 percent of the votes cast vs. fellow State Rep. Ralph Long's 44.31 percent. She will now face Republican Earl Cooper in November. District realignments caused a voting problem on Election Day for voters in Reynoldstown, which is now split between District 58 and District 59.
