Volunteer Opportunity: East Atlanta Beer Fest

Volunteers age 21 and up can help with a number of duties.

The tenth annual East Atlanta Beer Festival is May 18 at Brownwood Park, and according to its website, organizers "would be thrilled" to have volunteers. Help is needed everywhere from the entry gates to beer-pouring and set-up, and more. You must be at least 21, and photo IDs will be checked. And here's an important point about volunteering made on the beer fest's website: Remember, volunteers represent the East Atlanta Beer Festival to thousands of beer enthusiasts. If the thought of remaining sober (sampling conservatively) during your shifts bums you out, volunteering may not be for you (you can buy a ticket and drink to your heart’s content). If greeting and helping beer enthusiasts does seem like something you want to do, then please…

Flatiron Bar Raising Money For Families First Aid Group

Two-week fundraiser honors selfless, longtime customer.

East Atlanta's Flatiron Bar is honoring one its beloved patrons by raising a shot glass to one of his favorite charities. The Village eatery is sponsoring "We’ll Drink To That: Flatiron and Families First," to raise money for Families First, an Atlanta-based non-profit focused on children and their caregivers who are in crisis. The effort honors longtime customer Greg Hall, who is in the marriage and family-counseling program at Mercer University and intern at Families First. (Fireballs, cinnamon whiskey, are Hall's shots of choice.) "He's always just been a really good regular customer and always been generous with not only …

Volunteers Needed For Candler Park's Easter "Egg-stravaganza"

Annual Easter egg hunt scheduled for April 7.

by Mark Clement Here comes Peter Cotton Tail! It is time for the Candler Park’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. We will be kicking off the hunt at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 7. We will have three categories in three different areas at the same time. This year we are going from 2,000 to 2,500 eggs! We promise if you get you kid to the hunt on time and they make their best effort and do not find an egg then they will be able to take the Easter Bunny home with you. (But you will have to feed him.) Each category will have a magic Roster egg — an Easter egg fashioned as a roster with a special prize. And yeas the non-threatening Easter Bunny will be there. So bring your camera to take that special Easter photo with the kids. The hunt is brought to you …

A Challenge And A Pledge

East Atlanta's SOPO seeks to raise $2,000.

by Tito Sands Hello, this is your friendly neighborhood bicycle coop, SOPO, calling to ask you to help us raise $2,000 for our Stock the Shop Fund! With all of our supporters pitching in, this should be easy, right? "But why $2,000?" you may ask. The East Atlanta Beer Festival awarded us a $3,000 grant to help us Stock our Shop, and posed a challenge for us. A $2,000 matching grant, for every dollar we raise towards the Stock the Shop fund will be matched (meaning your donation gets doubled!) by the EABF, but only if we reach our $2,000 goal. We are taking the next step to help raise the money to take on EABF challenge. All monies donated during our Saturday shop hours will go to our Stock The Shop Fund and it will be counted towards the …
