Porter Beer Bar Semifinalist for James Beard Foundation Award

Also, Todd Richards of The Shed at Glenwood was noted as one of the best chefs in the Southeast by the prestigious organization.

The James Beard Foundation­ — a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of America’s culinary culture­– has announced the semifinalists for its 2013 Restaurant and Chef Awards, and a couple East Atlanta area restaurants and chefs were noted for their greatness. Little Five Points' The Porter Beer Bar made the cut as a semifinalist for the country's most Outstanding Bar Program. New Chef at Shed Restaurant

Todd Richards brings his signature and stamp to Grant Park eatery.

There's a new cook in the kitchen at the Shed at Glenwood. The Grant Park restaurant, which is owned by Cindy Shera and Todd Martin, hired Todd Richards as executive chef. Richards was chef of the Oakroom at the Seelbach Hilton in Louisville, the only five diamond awarded restaurant in Kentucky. He replaces Lance Gummere, the Shed's longtime chef, who left to partner with Shaun Doty in his new chicken venture, Bantam + Biddy. "We're entering a new chapter," Martin, who hired Richards eight weeks ago, said. Richards, a Chicago native, officially took the reins Aug. 4. Readers' Choice Winner: The Shed At Glenwood

Glenwood Park eatery gets top nods as best place to take mom for Mother's Day.

When it comes to brunch with mom, The Shed at Glenwood in Glenwood Park is tops. Fifty percent of readers voted for Shed in our Readers' Choice poll that asked for their input on the best place to go for Mother's Day brunch. The restaurant, owned by husband-and-wife-team Todd Martin and Cindy Shera, is known for its inventive and eclectic menu. Its executive chef, Lance Gummere, also has a devoted following. Two Urban Licks in Old Fourth Ward came in second, capturing 20 percent of the votes cast. It was a three-way tie for third with Inman Park's Il Localino, Old Fourth Ward's Serpas and Downtown's Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint each garnering 10 percent of the vote.
