Suspected car burglar shot dead in fight with police officer.
An Atlanta police officer has been placed on administrative leave following a late-night deadly shooting in Inman Park. The shooting victim, whom police did not identify, was suspected of breaking into cars behind 429 North Highland Ave. off Washita Avenue. The responding officer, told homicide investigators that he saw the now-dead man in the parking lot and the two became involved in some altercation leading to the shooting. The victim, a man believed to be in his early- to mid-30s, died at the scene in the incident, which occurred around 10:50 p.m., police said. Grant Park residents have raised more than $2,700 in donations toward a reward to help capture the killer or killers of David McReynolds, who was shot dead July 26. The David McReynolds Memorial Crime Stoppers Reward Fund, established on Fundly.com, the crowdfunding social media site, is on top of the $2,000 being offered by Crime Stoppers Atlanta. It includes the $500 the Grant Park Neighborhood Association added to it last week. All told, about $4,000 has been raised so far to bring justice to the 54-year-old McReynolds, a fixture in the neighborhood. APD seeks information on the July 26 shooting death of David McReynolds.
The Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit plans to conduct a "Tactical Community Neighborhood Canvass" Aug. 30 to gather information regarding the July 26 shooting death of David McReynolds. McReynolds, 54, was shot and killed in front of 799 Hill St., near Grant Park Place. In addition to the Homicide Unit, the canvassing, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. also will include the Zone 6 Discretionary, CID, COPS, APEX, Crime Stoppers, Motors, and Gangs units. Police say these neighborhood canvasses have made a significant impact in past crimes. Victim told police she standing in her backyard when a man shot her in the chest.
Atlanta police are looking for a man in connection with an Aug. 22 shooting of an Edgewood resident in the chest. The incident, which took place in the 20 block of Hutchinson St. NE, occurred at about 2 a.m. Police gave the following account: The victim's husband came home from work and as he entered their home, he heard a gunshot and when he went to his bedroom, he saw his wife come through a side door, clutching her chest. The victim told investigators she didn't know who shot at her but that she was standing in her backyard when the bullet hit her. Pressed further, she said a man wearing a green shirt fired at her. Antonio M. Wilson charged with murder.
Atlanta police said Wednesday a 21-year-old wanted for murder in connection to a July 23 shooting Downtown, turned himself into authorities on Monday. Antonio M. Wilson is charged with the murder of Joshua Alexis. He also faces aggravated assault with a weapon, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and making terroristic threats. Police said the incident at 196 Auburn Ave. NE stemmed from a long-simmering dispute between Wilson, Alexis and a third person, Simuel Stevenson. Wilson, police said, ran into Alexis and Stevenson on Auburn Avenue and fired at both. Alexis died at Grady Memorial Hospital; Stevenson, who was shot in the buttocks, received non-life threatening injuries.

Update Aug. 17, 4:30 p.m.: An Atlanta Police Department spokesman tells East Atlanta Patch investagators are still reviewing the case and he reiterates the cases may be related but that no charges have been filed. Atlanta police are investigating two early morning shootings that occurred Friday in Grant Park and Chosewood Park. In the Grant Park shooting, which occurred in the 800 block of Boulevard, at about 5:30 a.m., officers found the victim lying on his back in the hallway of his home, yelling for help. Atlanta police are seeking the public's help in identifying three men in a store surveillance video who are wanted for questioning in the July 26 shooting death of David McReynolds, a beloved resident of Grant Park. Jackon Faw, a resident of neighboring Peoplestown, wrote the following tribute to his neighbor that he shared on the neighborhood's Facebook page this week. David McReynolds was one of our neighbors. He walked down our street every day to the small grocery store at the corner of Ormond and Martin to buy his “numbers.” David was friendly to the granddaughters of our neighbor, Josephine, whose two girls sit in the front yard every day and know the names of everyone’s dog that walks by their house. Man was killed on the street, gunman still on the loose.
A man was shot dead Thursday afternoon in Grant Park, Atlanta police said. Police have no suspects in the shooting on Hill Street and Grant Park Place, where the victim was found with what is believed to be a gunshot wound to the chest in the incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. "Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting," APD spokesman John Chafee said.
