ORMEWOOD PARK — Dr Pepper Snapple Group and national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded five recipients, including Ormewood Park Playground, a $15,000 Let’s Play Video Contest Grant following a national voting competition. In March, Ormewood Park Playground submitted a compelling video about its playground project and was selected as one of 10 finalists to advance to the national voting competition between April 9-26. Gunman took victim's Mazda 3 and purse.
ORMEWOOD PARK — A woman was robbed outside her Gilbert Street home Monday morning, Atlanta police said. The victim told investigators she was leaving her home in the 900 block of Gilbert Street at about 8:45 a.m. when a teen armed with a gray or silver handgun approached her, pointed it at her and demanded her purse and car keys. After she complied, he got in her black, 2007 Mazda 3, backed out into the street and speed off and drove south on Gilbert. The gunman is described as black, 13 to 15 years old, 5'8" tall, with a high Afro cut hairstyle. He was last seen wearing a dark pull-over, blue jeans, a white tee-shirt and a red bandanna across his face. A witness in the 900 block of Moreland Avenue told police he saw a youth fitting that …

The Ormewood School and Ormewood Park Presbyterian Church are excited to build a new playground for the Ormewood community!
ORMEWOOD PARK — This community knows unstructured playground fun can make an enormous difference on the well-being and health of a child. That's why The Ormewood School along with Ormewood Park Presbyterian are building a great new play space. According to a news release, the park will be located at 1071 Delaware Ave. SE, and will be open to the entire community. The group's first step "was to apply for a KaBOOM! grant, which we did through their "Our Dream Playground" video contest," said Cindy Cahalen, Ormewood School director. $15 million in bonds will be issued to offset some costs related to refurbishing.
The Urban Residential Finance Authority voted Thursday to issue up to $15 million in bonds for the upcoming refurbishing of the Trestletree Village apartment complexes in Ormewood Park and Grant Park. The vote was unanimous. Denver-based Community Housing Concepts Inc. purchased the Trestletree properties in 2012, which includes the the 80-unit Trestletree North at 794 Ormewood Ave. SE in Grant Park and the 108-unit Trestletree South at 904 Confederate Court SE in Ormewood Park. The company is projecting it will spend $22.8 million on the project, which includes the acquisition costs.

"CSX expects to have the road open to vehicular traffic later today," Carla Groleau, a spokeswoman for the Jacksonville-based railroad company, told East Atlanta Patch in a statement. "The company apologizes for the inconvenience to neighbors, and thanks local law enforcement for their assistance." The Urban Residential Finance Authority is expected to take a second vote Feb. 21 on the proposal to issue up to $15 million in bonds for a planned redevelopment of the Trestletree Village apartment complexes in Ormewood Park and Grant Park. This second vote, which is required, follows the Dec. 20 approval the finance authority body already gave to the project. It is slightly less than the $15.6 million sought and approved in the earlier vote.
