Dear Editor: A quick shout out to our District 5 Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong, and her hardworking crew. They organized the 12th annual Focus Upon Senior Services Saturday at Drew Charter School. There just is no better, hands on, effort, that I know of, that directly connects our senior neighbors with so many of the services and resources available to them. We have a very special person as our council member for District 5, and I am thankful for the many creative ways she shows her leadership because it makes us better and stronger every day. — Kyle Caldwell, East Lake

Since PARKatlanta began issuing tickets almost 31 months ago, more than 150,000 unpaid tickets have run up a total of $7.4 million.
As if Atlanta motorists don't have enough reasons to be slightly enraged when behind the wheel. Now, they could be looking at paying more in fines when parked at an expired meter. On Monday, the full Atlanta City Council is expected to discuss and possibly vote on proposed legislation that could have motorists doing just that. If approved, the legislation, drafted by at-large Atlanta City Councilman H. Lamar Willis, increases the initial fine for an overstayed meter by $10 to $35. If the ticket is not paid within 14 days, the fee doubles to $70. And if it's still not fully paid within 45 days, the penalty increases to $95. The June 18 meeting of the council at 1 p.m.follows a June 13 meeting of its transportation committee which approved …

The Atlanta City Council's Transportation Committee is expected to hear from some Lake Claire residents today regarding traffic and safety concerns they have with MARTA mini-buses that transport special needs adults to the Frazer Center in neighboring Druid Hills. The residents are pushing for legislation that would limit the maximum weight of vehicles that use two Lake Claire streets to transport those adults to the Frazer Center, which says if enacted, would force the organization to nix the program. The issue stems from the Frazer Center's use of its rear entrance off Ridgeview Road NE to bring in developmentally challenged and special needs adults to its day program. The Frazer Center, located at 1815 So. Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, is a …

Councilwoman wants to facilitate dialogue in redistricting debate, help public understand liquor licensing laws and enforcement.

The alcohol meeting, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., is designed to explain the city's current liquor and alcohol-related enforcement codes. Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner will help explain current codes. Alcohol licensing for establishments have always been a sore issue between bars that want them and surrounding neighborhood residents who say some operators end up degrading the quality of life. East Atlanta's Natalyn Archibong votes against it
Atlanta residents will get the chance to have their say on Sunday alcohol sales this November. The Atlanta City Council on Tuesday voted 9-2 for the measure, which lets voters decide if they will authorize the city council to allow and regulate Sunday sales of beer, wine and liquor. The question — Ordinance #11-O-1169 — will be placed on the Nov. 8, 2011 City of Atlanta Special Election ballot. That ballot also would include the referendum to continue the extension of the the penny sales tax by Atlanta Public Schools and to fill the vacant Atlanta Board of Education District 2 seat. Two of the City Council members who represent the neighborhoods that comprise East Atlanta Patch Kwanza Hall and Alex Wan were among the eight sponsors of the …
