Atlanta City Council Committee to Discuss MLK Drive Taxi Stand Revisions

Transportation Committee will discuss proposal by Kwanza Hall, District 2 councilman.

The Atlanta City Council's Transportation Committee is expected to take up a discussion of a proposal by District 2 Councilman Kwanza Hall that would revise the taxicab stopping and standing rules on the south side of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Peachtree and Broad streets. The proposal follows a long row of complaints about loitering on that stretch and other quality of life concerns. The legislation — Ordinance 12-0-1140 — would remove some of the taxistand spaces and convert them into metered parking. Neighborhood Planning Unit-M, which represents the interests of Old Fourth Ward, Downtown and Castleberry Hill, voted in support of the proposal on Monday. NPU-M Elects New Officers

Terms begin next year.

Neighborhood Planning Unit-M, which represents the interests of the Old Fourth Ward, the SweetAuburn District, Downtown and Castleberry Hill, held its officer elections  Monday, Nov. 26, at its monthly meeting. The newly elected assume their posts next year. Among the elected: W. Forrest Coley, chairman; Fiona Sites-Bowen, vice-chairwoman, and Matthew W. Garbett, assistant secretary.
