Over the past weekend, there were at least three cars beak-ins.
GRANT PARK — The Grant Park Neighborhood Association continues to do its part to make residents aware of crime and how to be proactive in reducing it. The association just reported that over the last weekend there were a number of car break-ins and items taken from cars. GPNA reported that "on Sunday, Feb. 10 at about 7 p.m., a neighbor observed a young black male pulling door handles of vehicles on his street. The thief took off and jumped into a two-door Honda hatchback." The reports states at least three vehicles were burglarized on Killian, Cameron and Rosalia streets. Residents want to keep Civil War landmark in neighborhood.
GRANT PARK — The Battle of Atlanta was a significant turning point in the American Civil War. Fought 149 years ago, it resulted in the deaths of 12,000 Union and Confederate soldiers. It is commemorated at the Cyclorama, home to the world's largest oil painting, which depicts the decisive fight that occurred across several southeast Atlanta neighborhoods. But Grant Park has been gearing up for what may be another big battle to keep the Cyclorama, located just a steps away from Zoo Atlanta from being moved out of the neighborhood. Unlike the zoo, which has seen its attendance steadily increase each year and projects its visitor count will cross the 1 million mark by 2015, the Cyclorama hasn't enjoyed the same success. Grant Park Neighborhood Association makes gesture of support to local public schools.
GRANT PARK — As a gesture of support and symbol of the neighborhood's committment to its local schools, the Grant Park Neighborhood Association on Tuesday presented a check for $2,000 to its four institutions. Parkside Elementary, Atlanta Neighborhood Charter, King Middle and Jackson High schools will each receive $500. GPNA officials have said that this year they want to increase ties and strengthen support to local schools.

In the coming year, the Grant Park Neighborhood Association wants to increase resident partitipation and involvement, bring back some popular fundraising activities and continue to build on the relationships established with the new administrative leadership teams at the local public schools. The Grant Park Neighborhood Association elected its new officers for 2013. The new leadership team includes: Several members of the leadership team sat with East Atlanta Patch to discuss the top priorities for the neighborhood in the coming year. On the list is bringing back some fundraisers such as the Mothball and Tour of Homes and increasing participation in the goings-on of the Grant Park community by encouraging more residents to become involved. That story is coming Wedenesday, Dec. 26.
