Watch Mail For Voter Registration Cards This Week

It's important to pay attention as several districts, affecting some neighborhoods, have changed. Reynoldstown, for example, is split in two.

This week, voters across East Atlanta Patch, should have received their voter registration precinct cards. Your precinct card will tell you: It's important to read those cards as voting districts in some parts of our Patch have changed following the state's redistricting of state and house districts. As Jeffrey Landers, president of the Reynoldstown Civic Improvement League noted, his neighborhood now is split between two house districts — Rep. Simone Bell, D-Atlanta, of District 58, and Rep. Margaret Kaiser, D-Atlanta, of District 59. In other cases, districts have been redrawn, which has resulted in some House or Senate members losing their seats. Rep. The 2012 Elections Race To Watch: John Lewis Vs. Michael Johnson

Qualifying ended Friday at noon and election season is in full swing.

Wednesday was the first day candidates could qualify, or sign up to run for office in local, state and federal elections. Qualifying closed on Friday, May 25 at noon. Among the races to watch Georgia's Fifth Congressional District. Incumbent U.S. Rep. John Lewis, the black civil rights icon who is running against Michael Johnson, the former Fulton County Superior Court judge, in the Democratic primary. The winner will face Atlanta divorce attorney Howard Stopeck, the Republican candidate.
