School can begin property improvements.

LAKE CLAIRE & DRUID HILLS — The DeKalb Commission on Tuesday approved the Frazer Center's zoning overlay and special land use permits, paving the way for the insitution to move forward with development plans for the property. The approval  — commissioners asked for some revisions — brings an end to a development debate of more than two years that embroiled the school with Lake Claire and Druid Hills, the two neighborhoods within which the Frazer Center campus sits. "Needless to say, we are thankful to Commissioners Rader and Gannon and Council Member Archibong for their leadership in moving the process forward, and we are excited about refocusing our energy on our mission," Trace Haythorn, the Frazer Center's executive director said in a …

Frazer Center Develops Plan on Land, Building Use

School to meet with parents, neighbors and DeKalb County officials Aug. 30.

Following months of debate and controversy regarding noise, traffic and concerns about potential development, officials from the Frazer Center say they have developed a three-pronged plan that should satisfy its Druid Hills and Lake Claire neighbors. The Frazer Center — located at 1815 So. Officials have planned a 7 p.m. public meeting on Aug. 30 in school atrium to discuss their proposals. I have to agree with Thisten. What benefit does the frazer center have to threaten its neighbors. Why does the lake claire neighborhood care if the frazer center needs to add a paved parking lot. Its their land not the land of the lake claire neighborhood association. The center has already done what they can to add to the "buffer" zones but to my knowledge those zones have been that way for many…   more ›

City Council Transportation Committee To Hear Lake Claire Traffic Controversy

Special needs facility, residents of Ridgewood Road at odds over traffic concerns.

The Atlanta City Council's Transportation Committee is expected to hear from some Lake Claire residents today regarding traffic and safety concerns they have with MARTA mini-buses that transport special needs adults to the Frazer Center in neighboring Druid Hills. The residents are pushing for legislation that would limit the maximum weight of vehicles that use two Lake Claire streets to transport those adults to the Frazer Center, which says if enacted, would force the organization to nix the program. The issue stems from the Frazer Center's use of its rear entrance off Ridgeview Road NE to bring in developmentally challenged and special needs adults to its day program. The Frazer Center, located at 1815 So. Ponce de Leon Ave. NE, is a …
