'I hate booting and I thought it a bit unreasonable that the guy couldn't see he was just there for a few minutes using the ATM and grabbing a coffee.'
by Chris Fogg It's been a bit difficult for me since I took over the slightly worn out SunTrust building in East Atlanta. I feel a lot of people think we are the evil parking empire and I want to clear the air of a couple things. At the moment the parking is for 514 Flat Shoals Ave. only and for customers, employees or clients of 514 Flat Shoals Ave. We have something like 30-38 parking spots. We have over 40 employees upstairs every day not including SunTrust, LIT Realty or any of our respective clients and customers. If you add it up there isn't enough room in the parking lot for the building employees. I have been in the process of fixing up an old, unmanaged building, renovations, growing a company, moving and raising a nine-month-old …

Lot owner says booting attendant was unreasonable in situation.
EAST ATLANTA — The owner of the parking lot behind SunTrust Bank's Flat Shoals Avenue branch says he will refund the $75 booting fee levied against a bank customer this past weekend. A number of spots in the 38-space parking lot at 514 Flat Shoals are designated for SunTrust clients and the rest for customers and employees of other businesses in that building. But David Adams, a SunTrust customer and East Atlanta resident, said he was booted Saturday by an attendant of Empire Parking Services, the company that enforces the parking restrictions, even though he went to the bank's ATM to conduct a transaction. Adams' offense: He also went to Joe's East Atlanta Coffee Shop, which doesn't have authorized use of the lot. That Adams showed proof …
CNN Travel cites East Atlanta eatery in 101 best in the country.
EAST ATLANTA – From fútbol to football and baseball to basketball, sports fans on this side of town flock to the Midway Pub. Add in owner Carsten Green's extensive beer menu, and you have what CNNTravel.com says is a recipe for one of the best sports bars in America. The Midway, which East Atlanta Patch readers voted as having the best patio last year, is one of 101 sports bars so honored. (Only two other Georgia brewhouses, Stats in Downtown and the Royal Peasant in Athens, made the list.) To compile its list — the sports bars weren't ranked — CNN Travel considered local "best of" contest and the recommendations of bloggers and sports fans, among other considerations. Of Midway, CNN Travel wrote: This sports temple exudes a populist …

Owner of Carson Bryce Trading Co. finds joy in business that draws on creativity.
EAST ATLANTA — Carla Foster believes in second chances. It's a philosophy evident throughout the Carson Bryce Trading Co., a furnishings and home goods story she opened last month at 532 Flat Shoals Ave. There's the old typewriter that she repurposed now as a flower box, keys and all. There's the librarian's ladder that she restored and uses as display shelf for collectibles. And there's the giant, working wall clock that she made using an old, metal garbage can lid as its face. But she and a team helpers also make all-natural handmade soaps, sugar scrubs, body souflées, candles and lip balms using the essential oils of a number of scents ranging from orange hibiscus and patchouli to lemongrass and vanilla. There's a bit a fun and whimsy …

The parking lot behind the Flat Shoals Avenue SunTrust Bank is for customers. Bank customer David Adams parked in the lot Saturday to conduct a financial transaction at the SunTrust ATM and got a cup of coffee at Joe's next door. His car was booted.
EAST ATLANTA — Booting of cars in lots around the Village, the neighborhood's central business district, has always been a contentious issue between lot owners and the patrons of area retailers and restaurants. The owner of the lot behind SunTrust Banks Inc.'s East Atlanta branch at 514 Flat Shoals Ave., received several complaints from the bank about its customers not being able to park in bank-designated spaces because they were routinely snapped up by non-bank customers. So much so, that in 2012, he informed the East Atlanta Community Association that booting of non-customers would be enforced. In this Patch Voices editorial, David Adams, an East Atlanta resident and SunTrust customer, recounts how a March 2 trip to that bank branch's …

EAST ATLANTA — Atlanta police arrested a 28-year-old man Grant Park on Feb. 28 in connection with an alleged check fraud and identity fraud scheme at SunTrust Banks Inc.'s East Atlanta branch. Erkes Antwon Green is charged with: Police caught him after linking him to a black, 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 with tinted windows and chrome, five-spoke wheels. New owners want to evoke a cool, relaxed atmosphere to showcase Atlanta's underground scene.
EAST ATLANTA — After a brief closure, the former East Side Lounge has reopened as Union. The two principals who are majority owners in the club said their vision for Union, which has its grand opening this weekend, is to be a hub for Atlanta's underground scene — without the pretentiousness and attitude. Union becomes the third concept in the space at 485 Flat Shoals Ave. Before East Side Lounge, it had been the Fountainhead Lounge. "This very 'not pretentious,' " said Josh Peacock, who is the club's general manager and is better known in the underground world as "Scott Freeze." "This is very for the people, hence the name, Union." Peacock and his business partner, Jason Posey — AKA "DJ J.Sol" — also own Atlast Clothing, a streetwear shop …

Six people suspected of committing carjackings in and around Atlanta have been arrested. Police say the group is linked to crimes including two carjackings in East Atlanta and one in Cabbagetown.
Atlanta Police announced Friday that they had arrested six suspected carjackers and charged them in a string of incidents across the city and neighboring communities. "These are significant arrests, because carjacking is a violent crime that often leads to even more dangerous crimes," said Lt. Paul Guerrucci. "Getting these men off the streets will make Atlanta, and the metro area, a safer place, without question." Police were cautious about releasing details."This is an active investigation," Guerrucci said. Officials said the suspects are responsible for at least six carjackings, and all of the vehicles have been recovered at this point. A no pay lots zoning seems odd and outdated. The business district is popular enough there, particularly on the weekends, to justify the use of the various parking lots for a fee. I'm sure there are plenty of people who ride through, can't find a spot, don't know all the tricks to parking in EAV, and move on. To have 30+ empty spaces at SunTrust every night is silly.   more ›
