East Atlanta Kids Club Closed for Winter Break

Staff returns Jan. 3.

The East Atlanta Kids Club is on a program break until January 15.  Our staff will be present and available Monday through Thursday of this week. The recreation center will be closed on Friday, Dec. 21, and our staff will return to work on Wednesday, Jan. 2. 2013. Thanks to all of you who pitched in to make our holiday party such a blast for kids, parents, volunteers and staff last Saturday. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you next year. Volunteers Sought For Brownwood Bike Rally

Annual event features bike races and bike safety tips and a health fair.

by Jill Sieder It's time for our big spring event, the 9th-annual Brownwood Bike Rally! This Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., many cool things will be happening in and around Brownwood Park — bike races for kids and adults, a bike safety rodeo, a health fair, fitness demos, a bike decorating activity, food court and more. The Village Church of East Atlanta is a true neighborhood blessing

A church isn’t defined by a steeple, but its people. And it’s not about where or how long it’s been in the community, but what it does for the community. The Village Church of East Atlanta defines what a church is all about. The Presbyterian church was founded in September 2010 and holds services in the Brownwood Park Recreation Center. Pastor Matt Armstrong was previously at All Souls Fellowship in Decatur, but always had the mission of starting a new congregation.  “Our philosophy was to plant neighborhood churches,” said Armstrong, who lives in East Lake.  “A lot of people were suggesting East Atlanta Village as a good neighborhood. Strut Your Stuff For A Good Cause

Group seeks participants for East Atlanta Strut Parade

by Michelle Rice The East Atlanta Strut, an annual parade and party in the Village is seeking participants who'd like to march or showcase their creative floatmaking. Organizers are asking people to register in advance for the parade, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sept. 17. The parade route starts at the intersection of Metropolitan and Haas avenues and ends on Glenwood between Joseph and Brownwood avenues. Registration is $15 but free to those businesses that serve as Strut sponsors.) The money raised goes toward neighborhood nonprofit organizations, such as the East Atlanta Kids Club and others, who apply for grants. Ms. Rice is one of the Strut Parade coordinators.
