Parkside Elementary is a "phenomenal opportunity" for Summerhill.
For months, as the Atlanta Public Schools redistricting morphed into a final plan the APS Board of Education will vote on next week, a small cadre of parents from Summerhill pushed their two-word solution: Parkside Elementary. The tiny neighborhood got its wish as APS Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr.'s final plan includes rezoning Summerhill to Parkside, which is in neighboring Grant Park. But Summerhill is seeking a little extra insurance; some in the neighborhood have created a petition on Change.org — Support Summerhill to Parkside — to impress upon the board, just how much they want that scenario as the final outcome. District has open positions for principals at several schools.
Just when you thought the uncertainty with Atlanta Public Schools was just about over, there's new twist. APS is hiring to fill several principal spots and a number of other positions in schools throughout the district, including 4 in East Atlanta Patch. Open positions include: It's not clear what prompted the vacancies at the four schools. An APS spokesman said the administrators were not fired. "No one has been fired. Most tenured educators are on annual renewal cycles; principal positions can be changed at the discretion of management," APS spokesman Keith Bromery told East Atlanta Patch. by Patch Staff Atlanta Public Schools will host two community meetings for D.H. Stanton Elementary School to discuss its proposed closure as outlined in the final plan district superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr. released Saturday. By law, whenever a school is targeted for closure, officials in a school district are required to host two meetings to get input from those affected. APS has already held its required meetings for eight of the schools the superintendent is recommending for closure. But D.H.
