Colquitt Avenue Residents-Only Parking Decision Due in April

Residents want a solution to being parked off their street by visitors to Little Five Points

INMAN PARK — The city's public works department says residents of Colquitt Avenue NE could learn by early April if their application for residents-only parking will be approved. "This application is still in process," spokeswoman Valerie Bell-Smith told East Atlanta Patch. "We are completing traffic studies associated with the request. "Once all studies are complete a recommendation will be sent the neighborhood advising them of our findings and whether or not their application is approved. We expect to have the response completed by early April 2012." Colquitt Avenue homeowners created a plan that mandates residents-only parking from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily. Residents saw it as a compromise with businesses in Little Five Points that …

I have lived in other major cities where residents get residential parking stickers for their cars where they live. There was a small annual fee of $15, but that paid for the parking officers. You could also get temporary passes for family that would visit for several days that you would put in your windshield or if you rented a car. Loved it! http://www.dc.gov/DC/DDOT/Services/Parking+Services/…   more ›

Inman Park Votes to Support Colquitt Avenue Residents Only Parking Push

Residents, tired of competing with Little Five Points businesses for parking spaces, seek times when Colquitt is for them only.

After a lengthy debate that lasted for about 45 minutes, the Inman Park Neighborhood Association voted to support a push by residents of Colquitt Avenue to institute residents only parking. The IPNA's vote at its meeting last week is not binding on the city's public works department. But the public works department, which will make the determine will take the vote into consideration. The department will make the determination based on several criteria that will be weighted based on several factors: What Colquitt Avenue residents are calling for is residents only parking at certain hours: 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily. They say that's sensible compromise that will accommodate the businesses in Little Five Points along Euclid Avenue. Colquitt …

Colquitt Avenue Wants Residents Only Parking

Residents say spillover from Little Five Points makes finding parking difficult.

Residents of Colquitt Avenue NE , a narrow, street that runs from Euclid to North Highland avenues in Inman Park, want residents only parking at certain hours. Increasingly over the years, it's become harder for residents to park as patrons of Little Five Points establishments seek free, surface parking, rather than pay to park in a $2 lot or use the metered parking on Euclid Avenue. The argument Colquitt Avenue residents make is that not every home has enough off-street parking. The plan would call for residents only parking from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily, as a compromise between residents and the nearby businesses, Karen Goeckel a Colquitt Avenue homeowner, told East Atlanta Patch. Goeckel made a brief presentation to the Inman Park …
