Trio of Home Burglaries in Grant Park Over Last Three Nights

Several vehicle larcenies reported, too; Grant Park Security Patrol to step up watches.

GRANT PARK — Southeast Atlanta residents are being asked to be vigilant following three burglaries on Cameron and Berne streets and car break-ins those same areas. In all three cases, the incidents occurred in the early evening, Chris Newman, chairman of the Grant Park Neighborhood Association's Public Safety Committee, told East Atlanta Patch. The burglars gained entry to the homes  Monday night, there were two incidents, before 8 p.m.; on Saturday, the incident took place before 9:30 p.m., Newman said. In the Saturday incident, the burglars took a laptop, PlayStation 3 console and jewelry. A television was left behind. I agree with JohnK -- easy road access for getaways. Home Park has the same problem, being right at the 75/85 on ramp. Glenwood Park's been hit a few times recently and it's beside an I-20 entrance. Meanwhile, neighborhoods like Morningside and Druid Hills that aren't anywhere near an interstate ramp get burglarized less. Dissecting the city with those interstates was a bad deal on many levels …   more ›

Warning About Package Thefts

Two burglaries in Ormewood Park in recent days.

With Christmas just days away, the U.S. Postal Service as well as the giant delivery companies — FedEx and UPS — will be making delivieries. Thieves are known to follow delivery trucks to scope for packages and Atlanta police have issued warnings in recent weeks about home break-ins because of wrapped gifts under Christmas trees visible from the street and packages left on porches or in open view. Just in the last few days two Ormewood Park residents had packages stolen from their front porches: Delivery companies say they will make arrangements to ensure recipients receive their packages, but it's best to make plans beforehand with them. If you know you're not going to be home, you can schedule the delivery to be rerourted to your office …

I live in Cabbagetown and I, too, had a box stolen from my front patio last week. Move than $750 in merchandise inside. Kinda sux that people do this, especially during the holidays. It took three calls to 911 over the course of a week before I could get any response from APD.   more ›
