Village Fitness aims for Feb. 1 opening date.
A trio of fitness enthusiasts plans to open a gym in the former Ace Hardware store on Glenwood Avenue. Village Fitness, which has a target opening date of Feb. 1, is leasing about 6,000 square feet of the building at 1231 Glenwood Ave. and another 3,000 square feet of exterior space, Scott Manwaring, one of the gym's co-owners, told East Atlanta Patch. Financial terms were not disclosed but the lease is for five years. Manwaring's partners in the gym include Justin Fouse and Kevin Perry. Manwaring and Fouse worked together as personal trainers; Perry was a manager of a fitness facility in Buckhead. Property owner hires real estate broker to market Glenwood Avenue spot to others
The long-anticipated East Atlanta Family Fitness Center that was to have opened Aug. 1 in the old Ace Hardware store, may not happen after all. Landowner Brent Cunningham has given the gym owners until Thursday to vacate the property. Last week, he hired Ray Nestlehutt, a commercial real estate broker with Richard Bowers & Co. to begin marketing the 11,360-square-foot property at 1231 Glenwood Ave. It's not entirely clear why the gym didn't open by its target date of Aug. 1, though the project was said to have hit some permitting issues it couldn't overcome by opening time.
