The Atlanta Track Classic is a citywide track meet bringing together the best track athletes throughout Atlanta Public Schools.
The finals of the 2013 Atlanta Track Classic were held on April 1, 2013, and girls of Jackson High School showed why they are one of the best in the city this year. According to reporting by TalkUp APS, "the Atlanta Track Classic is a citywide track meet bringing together the best track athletes throughout Atlanta Public Schools." The Women's Team Trophy was reserved for Grady High School this year, but they were closely followed by Maynard Jackson High and Douglass High. The Men's Team Trophy went to Mays High School, who was followed by Carver High and Grady High. Maurice Jones is an 8th grade student who is focused on getting into the University of Alabama.
HISTORIC SOUTH ATLANTA — It is not often that a standout athlete is recognized for both his on-field talents, and his classroom dedication, but that is exactly what has happened for Parks Middle School 8th grader, Maurice Jones. Maurice Jones was just given APS Student Spotlight of the Week award by the TalkUp APS Blog. According to the blog, Maurice, "is very active in sports and participates in football, basketball, baseball, and track." Currently Maurice is the captain of his L.E.A.D baseball team. According to the media specialist at Parks, L.E.A.D, "encourages students to make the right decisions on and off the field." Scores of college basketball fans have descended upon Atlanta and this is your guide on what you need to know to get to and from events via mass transit.
You may take MARTA directly to all the Final Four events and other activities taking place Friday, April 5 to Monday, April 8. MARTA will have extra trains running to get customers quickly to the Bracket Town Fan Fest, concerts and basketball games via the Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station. Additional staff and police will be on hand to assist riders. For $2.50 one-way (plus a $1 charge for a permanent Breeze card), MARTA offers the most affordable and convenient way to travel to the events. Customers are encouraged to purchase round-trip fare or multiple day passes at the start of their trip for added convenience. The most inspirational thing I saw Sunday morning was a woman pushing a disabled man in a wheelchair as she ran the streets of Atlanta, up and down hills during the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon. At times, she had to slow to a walk to get up one of the steeper inclines, but she smiled through it. If you've never run or walked up Juniper Street, it's hard to describe how amazing it is that somebody would do this for 13.1 miles. I have run several marathons and half-marathons and scenes like that are a reminder of how many good people are out there, trying to help others. Tens of thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators will take over the streets of Old Fourth Ward and Downtown for the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon.
Residents and motorists take note because this Sunday, you'll need to adjust your normal routine ranging from how you get to your house of worship to where you park your car. That's because of the sea of runners who will hit the streets of Old Fourth Ward, Downtown, Little Five Points and Candler Park as they compete in the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon. Runners passing through the those neighborhoods will be taking part in the half- as well as the full marathon, which will have the biggest impact on Euclid Avenue, Freedom Parkway and Candler Park Drive, among other roadways.Ponce de Leon, Highland Avenue, Virginia Avenue and Park Drive.
