Springvale Park Playground Committee To Meet Today

Public invited to give feedback on preliminary playground ideas.

The Springvale Park Playground Committee is holding a design day workshop today beginning at 10 a.m. at the Marianna, 292 Moreland Ave. NE.

The workshop concerns the planned new playground and participants will be asked to review three preliminary designs that have been submitted and share their ideas.

The $85,000 project is part of a larger master plan for Springvale Park, Amy Higgins, who is chairwoman of the Springvale Park Committee told East Atlanta Patch.

The park, which dates back to the 1890s, is bounded by Edgewood and Waverly avenues to the south, west and north, and abuts homes on Elizabeth Street to the east.

The playground efforts include replacing playground equipment and a redesign for more efficient use of the space, she said.

"Parents are looking for a much better play experience," Higgins said.

The city is contributing $20,000 to the effort and park boosters have raised $10,000 through various fundraising events and donations, she said, adding they are in talks with Park Pride for a potential donation from that group.

The goal is to have the new playground installed by the spring of 2013 before the start of the festival season, Higgins said.
