Know Your Farmers: Atlanta Gourmet Mushroom Honors The Memory Of Liam Rattray

Every week, East Atlanta Patch, in partnership with the EAV Farmers Market, will showcase one vendor discussing what farming local means to them and why it's important.

This week's feature is Atlanta Gourmet Mushroom featuring an explanation on a new memorial mushroom garden in EAV Farmer's Market Edible Learning Garden.

The garden, of course, will produce mushrooms.

But the mushroom garden also has a special meaning as it is dedicated to the life and work of .

Rattray, a Georgia Tech graduate with summa cum laude honors, was killed Memorial Day 2011 in Little Five Points by a drunk driver.

The top research student in the university's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and the top student in Tech’s public policy school, Rattray, a alumnus, was preparing to pursue a career in environmental advocacy.
