Residents: Plan Ahead for Georgia Marathon Street Closings on Sunday

Tens of thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators will take over the streets of Old Fourth Ward and Downtown for the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon.

Residents and motorists take note because this Sunday, you'll need to adjust your normal routine ranging from how you get to your house of worship to where you park your car.

That's because of the sea of runners who will hit the streets of Old Fourth Ward, Downtown, Little Five Points and Candler Park as they compete in the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon.

Runners passing through the those neighborhoods will be taking part in the half- as well as the full marathon, which will have the biggest impact on Euclid Avenue, Freedom Parkway and Candler Park Drive, among other roadways.Ponce de Leon, Highland Avenue, Virginia Avenue and Park Drive.

But the full marathon course will also wind through parts of Druid Hills and affect streets including Lullwater, Oakdale and Springdale.

Street closings in the neighborhoods that comprise East Atlanta Patch could start at early as 3 a.m. and some streets are not schedule to be completely reopened before 2 p.m.
