The Atlanta BeltLine Running Series will hold its second annual 10K on Dec. 1.

Put your running shoes on and get ready for a scenic run. The Atlanta BeltLine Running Series has planned its second annual Atlanta Beltline Eastside 10K on Dec. 1.

This time, runners will have a chance to take the new Eastside Trail, winding through the Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Poncey-Highland, Virginia-Highland and the Midtown neighborhoods. This is the first official walk or run on the Eastside Trail, according to a news release.

You also will pass by the new , see skyline views of Downtown and Midtown, travel an off-road stretch of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor, and go through Piedmont Park.

The run takes place on the same day as the SEC championship and Championship Saturday, and a “tailgate challenge” encourages college football fans to represent their schools and enjoy a rigorous run before heading into the evening’s football programming. Teams are forming quickly, including representatives from Agnes Scott University, Auburn University, Georgia State University, Georgia College and State University, Kansas State University, University of Georgia, and Vanderbilt University, with more to come.

There will also be a “neighborhood challenge,” in which neighborhood associations compete for a $1,000 cash purse to be awarded to the fastest, largest, and most spirited neighborhood teams.

Participants are encouraged to register by Nov. 28, when registration will increase from $38 to $45. Proceeds benefit the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership.

The run starts at 10 a.m. at the Stove Works, 112 Krog St. NE in Inman Park.
