Moms Group Issues Statement on McNair Elementary Shooting

'We demand our members of Congress and state legislatures to put in place new and stronger gun laws to prevent senseless acts like these from continuing to occur in the future.'

by Piyali Cole

Every mother in Georgia is horrified at the thought of children, teachers, and administrators terrorized by the threat of gun violence at McNair Elementary.

We are devastated that, once again, a gunman with an assault weapon chose an elementary school as his target. We are grateful to the police department in DeKalb County for their swift action to protect the students and staff. For a mother, there is nothing more frightening than the fear that your child is in
danger. This happens too often in America, where gun violence claims nearly eight children every day.

We offer our support as the community deals with the lingering impact of gun violence, and we demand our members of Congress and state legislatures to put in place new and stronger gun laws to prevent senseless acts like these from continuing to occur in the future.

Ms. Cole is Georgia chapter leader of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
