Last Chance: Peoplestown To Make The Case To Save D.H.Stanton Elementary

5:30 p.m. rally today for school slated for closure in APS Redistricting

While most neighborhoods have had weeks to months to prepare to advocate against closure of their schools, the residents of Peoplestown only had a few days notice.

Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr. released his final list of recommendations on which schools should close, March 31. Among the 10 he listed is D.H. Stanton Elementary in Peoplestown.

APS is holding the first of two meetings with the D.H. Stanton community to discuss the closure today at 6:30 p.m. at the school. Another meeting on April 9 at 6:30 p.m. will follow tonight’s meeting. The APS Board of Education is set to vote on it April 10.

With these two meetings being the community's last chance to convince board members to block the proposed closure, a group called _Save Our Stanton_ is planning a rally today at 5:30 p.m. and will march from the Emmaus House at 1017 Hank Aaron Dr., to the school, which is located at 970 Martin St.
