King Middle School's Principal Named To Regional Superintendent Post

Popular Grant Park educator promoted in wake of Atlanta Public School cheating scandal

Danielle S. Battle, a popular and respected educator in Grant Park, was named regional superintendent Monday night as the Atlanta Public Schools reels from the cheating scandal that's thrust the district and city into the national spotlight.

Battle, most recently the principal of King Middle School and former principal of Parkside Elementary, replaces Michael Pitts as executive director of School Reform Team area 2.

SRT 2 — one of four such groupings of Atlanta schools — includes the East Atlanta Patch schools of Benteen, D.H Stanton and Thomasville elementary schools.

At Monday night's school board meeting, Interim Superintendent Erroll Davis removed all four area superintendents from their posts: Sharon Davis-Williams, Michael Pitts, Robin Hall and Tamara Cotman.

The changes come as APS officials embark on massive changes in response to the comprehensive 800-page report detailing cheating on standardized tests released by Gov. Nathan Deal last week.
