Grant Park Community Gives $2,500 to Jackson Cluster Schools

Jackson High School, King Middle School, Parkside Elementary School and Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School each received a $500 donation.

GRANT PARK — The Grant Park Neighborhood Association donated $2,500 to area schools in the Jackson Cluster.

GPNA made its presentation last week at its monthly meeting.

Jackson High School, King Middle School, Parkside Elementary School and Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School each received a $500 donation.

A fifth school, Wesley International Academy, which is technically one street outside the neighborhood boundary, also will receive $500.

The principals of Jackson, King, Parkside and assistant principal of ANCS were on hand to receive the donations and give an update on the goings-on at their respective institutions.

Jackson High's principal, Stephanie S. Johnson, who took the leadership reins last year, said the school has made strides in its improvement efforts both academically and in extra-curricular activities.

Jackson for the first time in a number of years, has a Star Student, a distinction that brings scholarships and automatic admissions to state universities.

The school also boasted having seven Governor's Honors students this year, five more than last year.

"We're winning a lot," Johnson said. "Maynard Jackson will be a choice school for the state of Georgia and it's going to be a place where you're going to want your children to come."
