Four APS High Schools Recognized by the College Board

Good news for a tarnished district

Between an ongoing investigation into alleged widespread cheating on standardized tests and the threat of losing its accreditation, the Atlanta Public Schools haven't had many reasons to celebrate.

But the district, which the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools put Atlanta Public Schools on a last month due to board governing issues received some good news Wednesday: The College Board recognized four APS high schools — including — as Advanced Placement Honor Schools.

The College Board Advanced Placement program lets high school students take college-level classes while in secondary school.

Jackson High School, located in Ormewood Park, received recognition as an AP Challenge School.

Challenge Schools are institutions with fewer than 900 students who are tested in the four core areas of English, math, social studies and science.

The other APS institutions cited were:

  • Carver School of Health Sciences and Research, AP Challenge School
  • Benjamin E. Mays High School, AP Stem School
  • Henry W. Grady High School, AP Access and Support and AP Stem School
