The school council is an initiative of the Georgia A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 and required for all schools to have according to Georgia Law. It is an organized forum and advisory body where members can discuss issues that affect their school, provide recommendations to the principal, teachers, and when appropriate, to Atlanta Board of Education and superintendent regarding issues that impact student learning.

Local School Councils are comprised of at least two parents, two business parents/business person, two teachers, and principal. Council members serve staggering terms for two years, or for a term specified in the council’s bylaws. There are no limits on the number of terms qualified parents can serve as a member. Becoming a parent representative of the school council is an excellent opportunity to get involved in your child’s school. We all know children learn more and have better lives when parents, school staff, students and the community work together.

We invite you to join us to make a difference in the education and quality of life for our students by becoming a parent member of our Local School Council. If you wish to be considered for nomination as a parent representative on LSC,please complete the nomination form and return it to the main office August 30 –September 13, 2012. A list of nominees will be posted and updated on Thursday, September 6, 2012 and Wednesday, September12, 2012. You will receive a reminder about the parent nomination and election process on Thursday, September 13, 2012.
