Eat Well While Helping Intown Academy Build a New Playground

OLD FOURTH WARD — There are still great opportunities for community members and supporters of The Intown Academy to dine in support of their new playground that Intown is looking to build in April.

According to Diana Bartlett, member of The Intown Academy Playground Committee: "None of the schools in the Old Fourth Ward have a playground; we're trying to be the first!"

As reported earlier, The Intown Academy was awarded a $15,000 Let’s Play Community Construction challenge grant from KaBOOM!, To keep the grant, the school must build its playground by the end of April.

The Intown Academy Playground Committee said that they, "raised enough funds to purchase the minimum amount of equipment for the grant, but is still raising $25,000 to complete Phase 2 of the project which will include additional playground equipment and planting trees."

The school is actively seeking help from a construction firm or landscape company who may be willing to donate time and equipment to remove some concrete sidewalk and dig post holes.  "All of the schools in the Grady cluster have had to build their own playgrounds."

The Intown Academy is also partnering with several Old Fourth Ward and Inman Park businesses to raise funds for the playground this month with a series of dining fundraisers.
