APS Redistricting: Sign Of The Times

Cabbagetown makes public plea for the schools cluster it favors.

If you've driven around some intown Atlanta neighborhoods, you've seen the signs connected to the Atlanta Public Schools redistricting process.

Along North Avenue in Poncey-Highland for example, signs that read "Spark, Inman, Grady today; Keep it that way," line a row of front yards that face the street.

A few Cabbagetown parents and parents-to-be took their message a little higher, posting their message on the DeKalb Avenue side of the bridge over the Krog Street Tunnel.

At the top, the message, which is sandwiched between two heads of cabbage, reads: "APS: SHOW CABBAGEKIDS SOME LOVE!"

Below on the three support beams: Coan, Parkside and Jackson — for Coan Middle School in Edgewood, and Parkside Elementary and Jackson High schools in Grant Park.

Cabbagetown, which is zoned for in nearby Capitol Gateway, wants to be rezoned to a cluster of . The message on the bridge, which went up Saturday morning, is designed to reinforce that sentiment, parents told East Atlanta Patch.

Technically, the DeKalb Avenue side of the Krog Street Tunnel is in Inman Park. But DeKalb has a of lot vehicular traffic, which means more people will see it.

Krog Street is no stranger to social commentary. Walk or ride through the tunnel and you'll see any number of messages, signs and commentaries on issues of the day and eras gone by.

You'll also see tourists and students with smart phones and cameras in hand snapping pictures.
