APS Approves Hiring of 10 New Principals

New leadership at Mays High School and Carver School of Technology as new principals were approved Monday night by the Atlanta Public Schools board.

At its Monday night meeting, the Atlanta Public Schools board of education approved the hiring of 10 new principals, including Timothy Guiney at Grady High School.

Guiney, most recently the principal at Adamson Middle School in Clayton County, has worked for the Clayton County School District for the last dozen years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia.

Guiney replaces Dr. Vincent Murray, who recently retired after 23 years at the Midtown school.

The other nine new principals are:

  • Gideons Elementary - Jesse Berger
  • North Atlanta High - Curtis Douglass
  • Mays High - Richard Fowler
  • Sutton Middle - Woodbridge Greene, Jr.
  • Carver School of Health Sciences and Research - Marcus Jackson
  • Carver School of Technology - Josie Love
  • Therrell School of Health Sciences and Research - Shelly Powell
  • Crim High - Tyree Simmons
  • Brandon Elementary - Kara Stimpson

The new principals will take leadership of their schools beginning on July 1.
