Gladys Knight's Chicken & Waffles on Cascade Offers 'Food For Thought' to Youth

The legendary, award winning singer, Gladys Knight invited several media outlets to announce the opening of her new addition of Gladys Knight’s Signature Chicken & Waffles (GKSCW) brand that is located on Cascade Road, in southwest Atlanta.  They will continue to serve the superb Southern cuisine, such as fried chicken, collard greens, various casseroles, waffles, and many other mouthwatering dishes to fit your palate.

Mrs. Knight's ultimate goal is to have her restaurants known as Five Star establishments where soul food is recognized like other cuisines throughout the nation.  Another one of her goals is to have her restaurant in the airport where people from all over can experience the delicious cuisine.

She gives much of the credit to her son Shanga for having the vision for the restaurant concept. It was his ambition, determination, and culinary skills that led them to pursue this venture.  They began in a small space on Ponce de Leon that has grown into a very reputable brand consisting of three existing restaurants in Greater Atlanta and more on the way.

This Cascade location is similar to the others only better. GKSCW will be spearheading a “Food For Thought” program that will feed the youth in the area, up to 12 years of age, breakfast every morning. You are required to make a one-time purchase of a “Food For Thought” bag that must be used in order for the youth to receive the free breakfast.

Gladys Knight states that when she grew up, her family always provided meals for others in the community. She was raised with the belief that food was the glue that kept her community together. I asked her about this program bringing back the notion of “it takes a village to raise a family” and she agreed. Gladys hopes that this program will inspire other local restaurants to do the same.

I like the fact that Gladys Knight is pioneering the “Food For Thought” program in an area of Atlanta where the majority of the great leaders for the city were born and raised. I definitely think this is a great program and hope others in this community, as well as Metro Atlanta, see the need to help feed the future leaders of America.
