PATCH VOICES: Carla Smith Dropped the Ball on Glenwood Place Project

A challenger for District 1 Atlanta City Council says the current incumbent didn't do enough.

by Robert Z. Welsh

The recent rezoning legislation Carla Smith has introduced is nothing more than an election year tactic to cover up for her blatant mistake. 800 Glenwood Ave. was on the market for one year and seven months before Fuqua Development applied for a permit to build a Big Box Wal-Mart.

We will never know what she was or was not doing behind the scenes.

But, at the very least, Carla Smith is guilty of gross incompetence for not acting sooner. She dropped the ball and does not deserve to serve this district another term.

Twelve years of Carla Smith is enough. District 1 needs a change.

Mr. Welsh, a resident of Peoplestown, is running against Atlanta City Councilwoman Carla Smith, the District 1 incumbent.
