Neighborhood Associations Get Thanks for Service and Money

EAST ATLANTA — Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong gave out $35,000 to community leaders and organizations Wednesday that is community beautification projects, security patrols, senior housing rehab work, purchasing public trash cans and recycling programs.

The presentations, made at the Argosy restaurant, follow the passage of legislation that allows for direct donations to community organizations directly from the District 5 budget.

“These organizations work tirelessly to serve and protect the needs of the community. They deserve the recognition of the city," Archibong said in a statement.

“We have such committed leadership in every neighborhood that I represent.  It is what I think really makes District 5 stand out among the other areas of the city."

The organizations included:

  • The neighborhood associations from East Lake, Lake Claire, Edgewood, Kirkwood, Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown, East Atlanta, North Ormewood Park, and Fourth & SAND in Old Fourth Ward.
  • The Battle of Atlanta Commemoration Organization.
  •  Neighbor in Need, which performs emergency home repairs for elderly residents that otherwise would live in unsafe conditions or be forced to move from their homes.
