State House Rep. Margaret D. Kaiser, D-Atlanta, was appointed to the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee for the 2013-14 legislative session, her office announced Tuesday.

“I look forward to service on the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee,” Kaiser said in a statement.

Her district includes portions of Inman Park, Reynoldstown, Ormewood Park and her home neighborhood of Grant Park, among other communities.

“Agriculture is the single largest industry in Georgia, and I am committed working on this committee to promote economic security, educational opportunity and shared responsibility.”

The Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee hears legislation that impacts the agriculture industry, human nutrition, food consumption and safety, and the plant industry.

As the the state's largest industry, agriculture and its related businesses contribute more than $68.9 billion a year to the Georgia economy, Georgia Farm Bureau statistics show.

Kaiser already serves as a member of the Appropriations, Education and Health and Human Services committees.
