Is East Atlanta Ready for a Roundabout?

EAST ATLANTA — By the end of the year, we are to have a nice new streetscape at the entrance of East Atlanta Village at Moreland and McPherson avenues.

The idea is to make that intersection more attractive and ease traffic flow.

As part of the upgrade, the intersection of Flat Shoals and McPherson avenue will get a roundabout -- the circular traffic plans common in France, Jamaica and the United Kingdom.

We even have one in Emory Village, at North Decatur and Oxford roads.

Theoretically, it should make that confusing intersection more manageable.

The sample images in the pictures submitted to us by the Department of Public Works shows a completely flat surface, but a DPW spokeswoman told us the final plan for EAV is a raised roundabout.

But we've heard a number of gripes from motorists who don't like roundabouts and prefer traffic lights or stop signs.

What do you think of the plan? Like it or hate it? Tell us in comments.
