Events of note in East Atlanta Patch

Monday, Dec. 12:

  • Atlanta Board of Education meets at 6 p.m., 130 Trinity Ave. SW. For a copy of the agenda and documents, go to the “Board of Education” tab under the Quick Links column on the right hand side of APS' website home page. Those who wish to speak are required to sign-in between 5 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.
  • Atlanta City Council holds a public hearing on the process at 6 p.m., 55 Trinity Ave. SW. A copy of the Charter Amending Ordinance 11-O-1827 and the Plan 5 map under consideration by the Atlanta City Council may be reviewed.

Wednesday, Dec.14:

  • fundraiser at Chik-fil-a, 105 E Trinity Place, Decatur. Come enjoy a great meal with your family and friends between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 pm. and help raise money to support the Drew Charter School PTA. Mention Drew Charter's name when you place your order at the counter and Drew'sd PTA will receive 10 percent of the restaurant's sales during the event.

Thursday, Dec.15:

  • hosts APS Superintendent Erroll B. Davis, Jr. at a community meeting scheduled for 6:30 pm., 801 Glenwood Ave SE.

Saturday, Dec.17:

  • Local glass artist Brenda Griffith fires up the kiln to help children create three holiday ornaments or winter sun catchers using a method called glass fusing — melting pieces of glass together in a kiln and making a new piece of glass out of them. Participants will blend crushed glass, glass spaghetti and decorative stained glass chunks into three beautiful flat glass ornaments or sun catchers. Griffith's class, which costs $15, starts at 11 a.m. at 2480 Memorial Dr. SE.
