Changes To Garbage Pickup Schedule In East Atlanta Patch

Department of Public Works makes changes To improve efficiency

Beginning Monday, East Atlanta Village, Ormewood Park, Grant Park and all of Southeast Atlanta will have coordinated garbage pickup.

Trash, recycling and yard trimmings will be picked up on Tuesdays in the city's southeastern quadrant.

Those East Atlanta Patch neighborhoods located in the city's northeastern quadrant, such as Old Fourth Ward, Candler Park and Inman Park, will have refuse collections on Mondays.

The city's public works department made the changes as part of a broader effort to be more efficient.

The new quadrant-based system is designed to allow for concentrated efforts in each area, bringing reduced carbon emissions and fewer missed pickups, according to the Department of Public Works.

It also includes scheduled monthly pickups of bulk items such as refrigerators and sofas. Prior to the change, residents would have to call ahead and make arrangements for bulk item collection. That sometimes led to big-bulk items being left curbside for several days.

The quadrant-based system is designed to reduce that, public works officials have said.

Dubbed "3 N 1," the service also will allow for residential street sweeping in most areas and residents will receive prior notice of scheduled street sweeping and bulk waste pick-up dates.

The pick-up boundaries are:

  • Northeast Atlanta (on Mondays) — the city limits to the north and east, Decatur Street and DeKalb Avenue to the south and Northside Drive to the west.
  • Southeast Atlanta (on Tuesdays) — Decatur Street and DeKalb Avenue to the north, city limits to the east, south and west. Metropolitan Parkway also serves as a boundary for part of the southeast quadrant.
