UPDATED: Boil Water Advisory For East Atlanta, Kirkwood And Reynoldstown Areas

Customers in affected areas should boil water for 1 minute past a rolling boil before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth.

UPDATE: City officials have lifted the water advisory.

A Georgia Power outage resulted in a temporary loss of pressure in the drinking water system. The system was restored to normal operations within approximately 30 minutes.

However, in an abundance of caution, a boil-water advisory is in effect for the following areas:

  • Flat Shoals to Haas Ave to the east, Glenwood Ave to the south, Moreland to the west, and McPherson to the north.
  • Holtzclaw Road from Stovall to the east, Kirkwood to the north, Chester to the west, and Memorial to the south.
  • Hosea L. Williams Drive that area could be bounded by 4th Ave to the east, Cottage Grove to the south, Lakeview to the west, and Gordon Road to the north.

To be cautious, customers in those areas should boil water for 1 minute past a rolling boil before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth. Infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies should be particularly careful.

The Department of Watershed Management is flushing the system as a precaution and sampling the affected zones to affirm that there is no contamination in the system, as well as investigating causes of the power interruption.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.
