Zone 3 Acting Commander Warns Of Rash Of Auto Thefts

Warning comes even as overall auto theft reports fin Zone 3 have fallen.

The Atlanta Police Department's Zone 3 — which includes the Grant Park, Peoplestown and Historic South Atlanta neighborhoods — issued a warning Friday following a rash of  auto thefts this week.

As of Friday,this week there were 9 reported auto thefts including two that were taken in the overnight hours including incidents on:

  • Astor Avenue, Canon Street., Langston Drive, the 1700 block of Sylvan Road and Victory Drive.
  • Humphries Street, the 1900 block of Metropolitan Parkway, the 1100 block of Pryor Street and Woodrow Avenue.

Even with the uptick, auto thefts in Zone 3 are still down a little more than two percent overall.

Year to date, there have been 462 auto thefts reported between Jan. 1 and June 4 in Zone 3, APD statistics show.
