Update in June 8 Eastland Heights Shooting

Editor's note: After two and a half weeks of requests, DeKalb County Police released the report that chronicled the shooting at the Eastland Heights Shell station June 8.

An 18-year-old Decatur man was shot in the leg from an unknown assailant or assailants near the Shell gas station at 1420 Custer Ave. in the Eastland Heights community of unincorporated DeKalb County.

The victim gave police the following account to the DeKalb County Police Department:
Around 11:30 p.m. on June 8, he was driving west on the two-lane Eastland Road when a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser crossed the center double-line to pass the victim's vehicle.

When the victim reached the intersection of Eastland Road and Custer Avenue, he saw the same PT Cruiser at the Shell.

As his vehicle approached the intersection, at least five were fired at his Nissan Altima - one going through the driver's side door and into his leg.

The victim then drove to the Kroger in the Village Creek shopping center at 1160 Moreland Ave.

He was treated at Kroger by paramedics who removed the bullet and then taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
Initially, Atlanta police thought there was another shooting at the Texaco gas station at Eastland Road and Bouldercrest Drive in East Atlanta, but a review of surveillance camera video from that location showed shots were not fired at that location.
