Twenty Cars Broken Into at Auburn Glenn Apartments

Auto larcenies highlight need for motorists to ensure they don't leave their valuables in their vehicles.

OLD FOURTH WARD — Atlanta police continually drive home the point of not leaving valuables behind in vehicles as part of its Clean Car Campaign.

Here' why:

On July 26, some 20 vehicles in the Auburn Glenn apartments parking deck at 49 Boulevard were burglarized between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., Atlanta police said.

Some of the vehicles' windows were smashed, while others had their locks broken.

Witnesses told police they saw three to six young, black men at different times throughout the night and in two of the vehicles that had been vandalized — a Dodge Magnum and an Oldsmobile-branded vehicle.

At least one witness told police she overheard one of the men, who all wore black hoodies, call one of his compatriots by name: Jason.

The officer who responded to the call for service noted the radio in the Dodge appeared to have been ripped out.

Other vehicles had been rummaged but items, such as mobile phones and other valuables were left behind.

Auburn Glenn management told police there are cameras on every level but "sometimes they don't work properly," according to the report.

Police collected fingerprints from the vehicles for further investigation.
