Trio of Home Burglaries in Grant Park Over Last Three Nights

Several vehicle larcenies reported, too; Grant Park Security Patrol to step up watches.

GRANT PARK — Southeast Atlanta residents are being asked to be vigilant following three burglaries on Cameron and Berne streets and car break-ins those same areas.

In all three cases, the incidents occurred in the early evening, Chris Newman, chairman of the Grant Park Neighborhood Association's Public Safety Committee, told East Atlanta Patch. The burglars gained entry to the homes

Monday night, there were two incidents, before 8 p.m.; on Saturday, the incident took place before 9:30 p.m., Newman said.

In the Saturday incident, the burglars took a laptop, PlayStation 3 console and jewelry. A television was left behind.

In the other two incidents from Monday night, the burglars tripped the home alarm systems. It's not clear what items, if any, were taken.

On top of the burglaries, residents have reported several car break-ins as well on those same two streets.

The Grant Park Security Patrol, off-duty officers who are hired by the neighborhood to provide additional patrols in addition to APD's on-duty officers will be increasing watches on the east side of the neighborhood, Newman said.

If you see any suspicious vehicles, vehicle movements or individuals or know anything about the recent burglaries and auto break-ins, call 911

Is it just me, or does Grant Park seem to get hit by burglaries a bit more than other east side neighborhoods? It's a shame too because it is such a nice neighborhood.

Very quick access to 1-20 westbound and eastbound, as well as 1-75 north and south.

I agree with JohnK -- easy road access for getaways. Home Park has the same problem, being right at the 75/85 on ramp. Glenwood Park's been hit a few times recently and it's beside an I-20 entrance. Meanwhile, neighborhoods like Morningside and Druid Hills that aren't anywhere near an interstate ramp get burglarized less. Dissecting the city with those interstates was a bad deal on many levels for neighborhoods.
