Shootout At Trestletree Village Apartments

Dice game may have sparked gunfight.

A disagreement stemming from a dice game may have sparked a shooting Wednesday night at the Trestletree Village Apartments in Ormewood Park, Atlanta police said.

A woman who lives in the complex — long the source of quality of life complaints for residents in Ormewood Park and neighboring Grant Park — suffered lacerations to her arm and leg, but refused treatment, police said.

She was caught in the 9 p.m. incident when, after hearing the gunfire, she ran out to get her children from a neighboring apartment, police said.

A Trestletree Village Apartments manager was not immediately available for comment Thursday.

Police gave the following account:

A witness told police he saw three men near some bushes in the 900 block of Confederate Court SE exclaiming, "We got him, we got him."

The witness then said he saw another man across the street shooting at the three men who were near the bushes.

The lone man who returned fire may be known as "Dion," according to another witness.

A third witness said one of the gunmen point what appeared to be an M16 rifle in his direction and fired several times at him.

The lone gunman are described as black with short, dreadlocked hair and last seen wearing a white tee shirt and blue jeans.

One of the other gunmen is described as black with medium-sized dreadlocked hair wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

The man holding what is thought to have been the M16 is black and last seen wearing a red hat, white tee shirt, khaki shorts and Air Force One-branded shoes.

Anyone with information about any of the recent crimes is urged to call 911 or Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404.577.TIPS (8477).

Is it only rumor and speculation that Trestle Tree is for sale?
North? South? or both?
Péralte Paul (Editor) May 17, 2012 at 08:33 pm
I had not heard that, Jason but I can try to find out.

They were looking for a buyer in the past, but reportedly are not actively seeking a sale now.

I live on the other side of the tracks and heard this shooting. Usually I think, oh maybe it was fireworks, but this absolute confirmation of gunfire freaks me out. Why can't the police do anything? This area is right next door to our neighborhood school! (and my house) seems like that would make this a priority.

The leases should prohibit gun ownership as a requirement residency. I can't believe that the property manager does not do something about the residents shooting their guns. Everyone who does this should lose their apartment!

Victoria, that must have been scary!

Trestletree is horrible. It's been a refuge for criminals for many years and nothing is ever done about it. I lived on Ormewood from 2000-2003 and a person was shooting a rifle up in the air behind my house, we saw which apartment he went into, and the police went there and asked if someone had come in. The residents said "no" so the police left. Marvelous police work there... sigh...

We spotted her last night (Thursday) just before the storm hit and chased her down May to CliftonRead More then up to Glenwood, where we think she turned into that development under construction across from the school. The storm swept in, and we lost her ... she was clearly panicked. Been back on the hunt this morning with no sign. Please call or text us at 423-653-5636 if you spot her!!!
