Police Nab Alleged Mobile Phone Snatcher

Police: Suspect swiped phone as victim ate dinner on restaurant patio.

Atlanta police arrested a 19-year-old man and charged him with theft by taking following an Aug. 28 snatch-and-run incident at in Inman Park.

The victim told police she was dining on the patio of the North Highland Avenue restaurant at around 8:30 p.m. when the suspect — Marvin Jackson — walked up the sidewalk, snatched her iPhone from the table and ran north.

A witness to the snatch-theft gave chase, running behind Jackson, who was wearing a black, Adidas-branded tee-shirt, black hat and pants.

That witness cornered Jackson, who told him he was not involved in the theft.

Moments later, police received a call from a North Highland Avenue resident who said three men ran through his yard and jumped his fence and were headed toward Freedom Park.

Police found Jackson, who was with another man, on Washita Avenue at Freedom Park.

Though the iPhone was not recovered, the victim identified Jackson as the thief, police said.
