Police Arrest Man In Grant Park Home Burglary

Atlanta Police arrested a 23-year-old man Monday following an early-morning burglary in Grant Park.

Joseph Lamont Terrell is charged with burglary, giving a false name and being a party to a crime for his role in the burglary, APD spokesman Officer John Chafee told East Atlanta Patch.

The burglary involved a home in the 300 block of Ormond Street between Cherokee Avenue and Rawlins Street.

He remains in the Fulton County Jail on $500 bond but his accomplice, whom police said dropped a MacBook charger as he ran away, remains free.

The Grant Park Neighborhood Association, meanwhile, issued a warning about a scam that had been an issue in the community earlier in the summer.

Terrell and his compatriots, GPNA said, had been knocking on residents' doors to ask if they needed any yard work done — despite lacking any lawn mowers and other tools.

GPNA is asking that anyone who was approached by them call 911 to provide investigators with detailed descriptions of the suspects.

The arrest comes days after another Grant Park resident reported an Oct. 10 daytime burglary of their home. In that incident, the thief or thieves gained access to the home by using a crowbar to remove a doorframe. Among the things stolen: a 50-inch television, laptop, camera and other equipment.

Separately, GPNA is reminding everyone that if they see kids or teens roaming free during the school day, they are to call 911 to report them as truant since they should be in school during regular school hours.
