Man Shot in Back Early Sunday at Boulevard Citgo Station

Police searching for suspect in gas station robbery attempt.

Atlanta police are searching for a man who shot a Citgo gas station customer in the back early Sunday.

The man was shot at the station at 1362 Boulevard in the Benteen and Englewood Manor area south of Grant Park Zoo around 3:20 a.m., according to an e-mail statement from Officer Kimberly Maggart, an APD spokeswoman.

Maggart said the man was inside the station when witnesses said they heard a male voice near the front door.

Then, "the victim yelled Watch Out!" Maggart said in the e-mail news release.

Maggart said witnesses recounted that 2-3 shots were fired and that they saw a black male running from the front door.

When police arrived, she said, they found the victim down on the floor with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The victim, described as a Hispanic male, was transported to Grady Hospital.

Witnesses did not provided any additional description of the suspect or what he was wearing, Maggart said.

The investigation is continuing.
